Our Story

Why I Created COWY

COWY began with my daughter, Greer.

Before she was born, our hope was that she would be breastfed. Her mother worked incredibly hard to make that happen, but breastfeeding did not come easily for them. Like many new parents, we eventually had to accept that love, effort, and good intentions do not always make everything go according to plan.

We needed another dependable way to nourish our daughter.

That was when formula stopped being just another product and became deeply personal to me.

I assumed finding one I felt good about would be the easy part.

It was not.

I expected fatherhood to teach me plenty of new things. How to change a diaper without creating a situation that required an outfit change for both of us. How to function on very little sleep. How one tiny person could somehow need more equipment than an entire football team.

What I did not expect was to spend so many late nights researching formula ingredients.

I searched online, compared nutrition labels, read studies, and scoured parenting forums. I found countless parents asking the same questions I was asking and expressing many of the same frustrations I was feeling.

Every time I found a formula that looked promising, I felt a little hope.

Then I would read the ingredient list.

Almost.

I would find another one.

Also almost.

After enough late night research, spreadsheets, ingredient comparisons, and open browser tabs, my computer started to look like I was conducting a federal investigation into powdered milk.

But I could not let it go.

This was not simply an interesting project. This was my daughter.

I would look at Greer and think about how completely she depended on us. She could not read a label, research an ingredient, or decide what went into her bottle. That responsibility belonged to us.

I wanted to understand exactly what I was giving her. I did not want to overlook ingredients that made me uncomfortable simply because every available option seemed to contain them.

The more I searched, the more disappointed I became.

I kept finding formulas built around ultra processed ingredients that felt increasingly far removed from actual food. Seed oils. Synthetic vitamin premixes. Isolated powders. Added sweeteners. Long ingredient lists filled with things most families would never recognize or keep in their kitchens.

I kept asking myself the same question:

Why was it so difficult to find a formula that started with real food?

My professional background made it even harder for me to simply accept that this was how formula had always been made.

I am a scientist, chemist, and biologist, and I develop products for a living. Studying ingredients, understanding how they work together, and finding better ways to build products are already major parts of what I do.

So naturally, what began as a father searching for formula slowly became something much bigger.

I started analyzing every ingredient, every nutritional requirement, and every possible alternative. I was not trying to create a business. I was trying to solve a problem for my daughter.

The search became a project.

The project became a mission.

Eventually, I had to accept the answer that kept appearing in front of me:

The formula I wanted for my daughter did not exist.

That realization was both frustrating and motivating.

I never planned to start a formula company. I was simply a father trying to find the right option for his child.

But I also knew I had the experience to do more than complain about what was available.

I could try to create what I had been searching for.

That decision became COWY.

From the beginning, I used one simple standard:

Would I feel good giving this to my own daughter?

Not whether it was convenient.

Not whether it was commonly used.

Not whether it looked good on the front of a package.

Would I feel good preparing it for Greer, placing it in her hands, and watching her drink it?

If the answer was not an immediate yes, it was not good enough.

I wanted to create a formula that began with whole milk and real food ingredients. Something made with thought and intention. Something parents could turn over, read, and actually understand.

I did not want to create another conventional formula, place it inside attractive packaging, and call it different.

I wanted to start from a different place.

Whole milk. Real food ingredients. Every ingredient chosen for a reason.

COWY is deeply personal to me because it began with the person I love most.

It came from the responsibility I felt every time I prepared something for Greer and wondered whether I was making the best choice I could.

It came from wanting to protect her, nourish her, and give her the strongest start I knew how to provide.

It grew from countless nights spent searching for an option I could truly believe in.

Eventually, I stopped hoping someone else would create it.

I decided to build it myself.

I am bringing together everything I have learned throughout my professional career and, most importantly, my perspective as a father to create the best formula I possibly can.

COWY began as a solution for my own family.

Now, I am creating it for parents like us. Parents who have stayed awake searching. Parents who read every label. Parents who want to feel confident about what they are giving the people they love most.

My hope is that when those parents discover COWY, they feel something I could never quite find during my own search:

Relief.

Relief that someone else asked the same questions.

Relief that someone else cared about the same details.

Relief that someone finally refused to settle for almost.

Love, Dad
